GoFundMe launched for family of toddler fighting rare kidney cancer in Cayuga County

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Ivan, a young Auburn boy battling a rare form of Stage 3 kidney cancer known as Wilms’ Tumor. The fundraiser is organized by a local woman aiming to assist Ivan’s family with medical expenses and other related costs.

Ivan Frank, 21 months old, has faced numerous health challenges since birth, including epilepsy and chronic low lymphocytes, making him susceptible to infections and developmental delays. His recent cancer diagnosis came after extensive testing in July, revealing a rare kidney cancer primarily affecting children.

“I am still baffled by the sheer amount of support coming from everyone,” Laura Blaisdell, Ivan’s mother said late-Saturday. “Donations, a GoFundMe, a benefit, t-shirts, food and visa gift cards, and everyday I have people asking about my sweet baby and I. I have so much support and while I knew I had support and love in my life, I never thought it would come out like this. Thank you everyone so so much.”

Ivan’s treatment involves surgery, chemotherapy, and ongoing care from various specialists. The family is seeking donations to cover medical expenses, lost wages, and daily travel. Supporters can contribute financially, or help by sharing Ivan’s story and offering prayers.
