The New York Mets (40-40) blew a five-run lead and had their four-game win streak snapped with a 9-6 loss to the Houston Astros (41-41) on Saturday evening at Citi Field.
Jake Diekman, Reed Garrett, and Danny Young combined to allow five runs over the final two innings, and the Mets’ 6-1 lead was suddenly gone.
Mark Vientos crushed his 10th home run of the season. Pete Alonso had a two-run single, Brandon Nimmo had an RBI double, while Jose Iglesias and Harrison Bader added run-scoring singles.
Tylor Megill was charged with four runs over 5.1 innings.
The Mets will hand the ball to Luis Severino on Sunday as they look to take two of three from the Astros. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:40 p.m.
