A series of traffic accidents during Wednesday’s morning commute caused significant disruptions on major routes in Ithaca, including Route 96, Route 89, and in the west hill and west end areas. The incidents, including a three-car collision and a separate rollover, snarled traffic and necessitated emergency responses.

On the 200 block of Cliff Street, part of Route 96 on Ithaca’s west hill, a three-car crash temporarily blocked the road. Crews worked diligently to clear the blockage and restore traffic flow. Meanwhile, on Route 89, a one-car rollover near Cass Park led to the closure of Taughannock Boulevard, where an emergency medevac helicopter landing zone was established.

Traffic on Route 89 was restored just before 10 a.m., easing some of the morning commute challenges. The incidents highlighted the need for caution during heavy traffic periods.
