Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge urges respectful viewing as weather gets warm

The Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, a haven for diverse wildlife in New York State, is reminding visitors to observe safety guidelines to protect nesting birds and other animals. Home to species such as great horned owls and bald eagles, the refuge offers spectacular viewing opportunities but faces challenges in balancing visitor access and wildlife welfare.

During the nesting season, visitors are encouraged to minimize disturbances by keeping noise levels low and maintaining a respectful distance from wildlife. Actions such as approaching animals too closely or using bait can disrupt natural behaviors and are prohibited.

For optimal and safe wildlife viewing, guests are advised to stay in their cars along designated Wildlife Drives, except in areas marked for parking. By following these rules, visitors can help ensure the safety of both wildlife and themselves, contributing to the sustainability of this cherished natural site.
