Yankees place OF Harrison Bader on waivers

Just hours after releasing third baseman Josh Donaldson from the roster, the New York Yankees placed outfielder Harrison Bader on waivers, Newsday’s Erik Boland reported Tuesday.

Any club can claim the 29-year-old and add him to their roster before September 1, making him eligible for the playoffs.

Bader, who will be a free agent this offseason, is still owed about $880,000 for the rest of the season.

This move comes as a surprise because the Yankees had an opportunity to trade him before the August 1 deadline.
