Who are the five candidates for Canandaigua’s City Council vacancy?

Following the resignation of Renée Sutton from an at-large seat, five individuals have stepped forward to fill the City Council vacancy.

The list includes James Davern (Republican) of 172 N. Main St., Eric Frarey (Democrat) of 155 Howell St., Douglas Merrill (Democrat) of 30 Island Lane, Karen Serinis (Republican) of 36 Island Lane, and John Squires (Democrat) of 47 Leicester St.

The eight current Council members will conduct interviews with the applicants on Aug. 29. The appointed candidate will serve until Dec. 31, 2024, and if interested in continuing, must participate in the November 2024 election to secure the remaining year of the term.
