Residents living on William Street in Hornell have been placed under a boil water advisory since Wednesday afternoon due to a water main break on North Church Street.
The advisory, expected to last for at least two days, requires residents to boil water for consumption, food preparation, and hygiene purposes. The advisory will remain in effect until the water is clear and water samples test negative for bacteria for two consecutive days. Other parts of Hornell experiencing discolored water are advised to run the tap until clear.
Hornell experienced two water main breaks on Wednesday, with the second break occurring on Fulton Street just before 7:30 p.m.
Crews were on-site making repairs, and residents in the area may experience discolored water and low water pressure until the issue is fixed. No advisories have been issued for Fulton Street at this time.
