  • Staff Report

On Saturday, November 12 just after 6:30 p.m. a driver crashed into a Chemung County Sheriff’s deputy car on I-86.

The sheriff was responding to a car-deer accident. There were three people broken down in the emergency lane eastbound close to the airport. The three people were about to get into the patrol car to wait for a tow truck driver when another vehicle crashed into it, just missing the officer and three people.

Chemung County Sheriff Bill Schrom said there was no alcohol or drugs involved, but someone was just not doing what they should have been doing. Schrom’s message to drivers is to slow down and move over if you see emergency lights. Don’t be distracted and pay attention. Some drivers do not keep their eyes on the road and pay attention to what is in front of them.

Nobody was hurt in the crash, but the vehicle kept driving down I-86 until it hit another vehicle. The driver was issued multiple tickets according to WENY News.
