The Auburn Enlarged City School District Board of Education announced Dr. Misty Slavic and Dr. Tanya Wilson-Thevanesan as the two finalists for the district’s superintendent position. The current superintendent, Jeff Pirozzolo, is set to retire on January 5, 2025, after serving since 2015.
Slavic, previously superintendent of Kiski Area School District in Pennsylvania, resigned in April 2024 due to her husband’s job relocation to New York. Wilson-Thevanesan is currently the deputy superintendent for school improvement and community engagement at Fairport Central School District in Monroe County.
Nearly 20 candidates applied for the position. After interviews, the board selected five semifinalists who engaged with four stakeholder committees. The board expressed confidence in the selection process and looks forward to the final interviews with Slavic and Wilson-Thevanesan later this month.
