A house at 10 Groton Ave. in Freeville was reduced to rubble following a fire that broke out early Friday morning. Firefighters responded to the blaze at 12:19 a.m., according to the Freeville Fire Department.
The home’s sole resident was not injured. However, the fire, fueled by the house’s packed contents, was challenging to extinguish, taking until 3:22 p.m. to fully put out.
Between 50 and 60 volunteer firefighters from several nearby departments, including Dryden, McLean, Groton, and others, worked to control the fire, drawing water from Fall Creek due to the lack of hydrants in the village.
