Yankees blow late lead in loss to Cardinals

The New York Yankees blew a late lead and fell to the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-3, on Friday night at Busch Stadium.

The Yankees led 3-2 going into the eighth inning and then Clay Holmes gave up a two-out two-run double. That ended up being the difference in the game as St. Louis held on for the victory.

Nestor Cortes started for New York and allowed a pair of runs over 5 1/3 innings while walking four and striking out four.

Josh Donaldson provided most of the Yankees’ offense as he drove in a run with an RBI double and collected a second RBI on a single. Gleyber Torres also brought in a run with a single.

The Yankees will try to bounce back on Saturday with Domingo Germán on the mound. The first pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.
