NYSP: Man beat sister to death with frying pan in Steuben County

In a tragic update in Steuben County, New York State Police confirmed that John N. Marvin II was charged with the murder of his sister, Heather L. Moran, after assaulting her with a frying pan. The assault occurred on Tuesday, Feb. 20, inside a trailer home in the town of Erwin, leading to Moran’s death from her injuries on Wednesday at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. The siblings were reportedly assisting their 81-year-old father at the time of the attack.

During the assault, Moran was struck multiple times in the head with a cast iron frying pan while she and her father were at the kitchen table. The elderly father attempted to intervene but fell, unable to assist further; fortunately, he did not sustain injuries. John Marvin called 911 immediately after the incident and was arrested without resistance upon the arrival of the authorities.

Initially charged with attempted murder and assault, Marvin now faces a second-degree murder charge following Moran’s death. He is currently held without bail at the Steuben County Jail, facing 25 years to life in prison if convicted. This event marks a shocking and violent act within a family, leaving the local community in dismay.
