Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3) is set to offer financial support to students engaged in unpaid or low-paid internships, thanks to $116,000 in state funding secured over the next three years. This initiative, part of a broader workforce development investment by Governor Kathy Hochul, aims to alleviate the financial burden for students who pursue vital experiential learning opportunities as part of their academic programs.

Eligible TC3 students can now apply for up to $3,500 to help cover expenses related to their internships, including transportation, attire, tuition, rent, childcare, and groceries. This support is expected to open up more opportunities for students across various majors, encouraging them to take on internships that they might have previously bypassed due to financial constraints.

Highlighting the importance of this program, Dara Riegel, TC3’s Assistant Director for Employer Relations and Experiential Learning, emphasized the college’s commitment to facilitating experiential learning across its diverse academic offerings. With a detailed list of internship programs available on its website, TC3 continues to prioritize hands-on learning experiences for its students in fields ranging from business and communications to nursing.
