Syracuse Mets edge Lehigh Valley, 5-4

The Syracuse Mets held on for a 5-4 victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Sunday night at NBT Bank Stadium and secured a series win by taking four of six.

Nate Fisher started on the bump for Syracuse and tossed five shutout innings but did not pick up the win because the bullpen blew the lead.

The Mets jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Mark Vientos’s ground-rule double.

Lehigh Valley tied the game in the seventh on Dustin Peterson’s RBI single.

Johneshwy Fargas put the Mets back in front in the seventh with a bases-clearing double. Later in the frame, Luke Ritter worked a bases-loaded walk, increasing the lead to 5-1.

The IronPigs made things interesting in the ninth as Donny Sands blasted a three-run homer, cutting the Syracuse lead to 5-4, but they held on for the victory.

Syracuse will head to Buffalo to open a six-game series with the Bisons on Monday night. The first pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m.
