Steuben County to end contact tracing calls and texts after this week

Residents of Steuben County along with most other New Yorkers will no longer receive calls from COVID-19 contact tracers after this week.

Steuben County Public Health Director Darlene Smith announced the New York State Department of Health (DOH) Virtual Call Center will cease operations for Steuben County after April 29, according to WETM. Those who test positive for COVID or come in close contact with someone who has will not receive calls or texts from NYS or Steuben County.

The announcement came after the DOH gave local health departments the ability to suspend contact tracing. Smith emphasized that those who test positive should continue to follow the state’s isolation and quarantine guidelines. You can view Steuben County’s COVID guidelines here.
