Syracuse Mets drop series finale, swept by Columbus Clippers

The Syracuse Mets were swept by the Columbus Clippers with a 4-3 loss in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Huntington Park.

Mike Montgomery got the start for Syracuse and he allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits over 4.2 innings while striking out five.

Colin Holderman followed Montgomery and allowed the only run in relief for the Mets. Yoan López and Stephen Nogosek each tossed a scoreless inning.

Syracuse’s first run of the game came in the first when Travis Blankenhorn sent one over the wall in right-center. In the bottom half of the inning, Columbus scored a pair of runs on RBI singles by Daniel Johnson and Will benson.


Patrick Mazeika tied the game at two in the fourth with an infield RBI single.

Richie Palacios put the Clippers back on top in the fifth with a RBI groundout.

Luke Maile extended Columbus’s lead in the sixth with a solo home run to right.

Blankenhorn made it a one run game in the ninth with a RBI groundout, but the Mets couldn’t generate anymore offense to tie the game.

Mazeika had two of the Mets six hits.

Syracuse will get the day off Monday before they begin a six-game series with the Worcester Red Sox on Tuesday night at NBT Bank Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
