Third Economic Impact Payment
In 2021, the IRS sent out over 175 million stimulus checks to eligible Americans. The third stimulus payment was $1,400 and should be reported on your taxes, even though it isn’t taxable. Read more about it here.
You may have received IRS Letter 6475 as it was mailed out early in 2022. It was mailed out to ensure you claim your stimulus check and “plus-up payments.”
If a professional is preparing your taxes, give them the letter with your other tax documents. If you are filing them yourself, be sure to use the amount shown on Letter 6475 in the Recovery Rebate Worksheet. Enter that information on Line 30 of IRS Form 40.
If you already filed your 2021 tax return, and realized you misreported your stimulus payments, do not file an amendment return. The IRS says that they will correct the mistakes and notify you.
