Victim in fatal Hopewell fire identified by authorities as investigation continues

A woman is dead and a man was hospitalized following a devastating house fire early Tuesday morning in the Town of Hopewell.

Emergency crews responded to 3915 Stoddard Road around 2:35 a.m. on July 8 after the Ontario County 911 Center received a report of a structure fire. Deputies arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames.

Michael Wright, 66, managed to escape the residence and alerted authorities by going to a nearby home to call 911. He was transported to FF Thompson Hospital by the Canandaigua Emergency Squad for injuries sustained in the fire and has since been discharged.

Deborah Wright, 70, was unable to escape and was later found deceased inside the home by members of the Ontario County Fire Investigation Team. Her body was taken to Geneva General Hospital for an autopsy.

The Ontario County Fire Coordinators Office is leading the investigation into the cause of the fire, with assistance from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office.

Multiple fire departments responded to the scene, including Hopewell, Canandaigua, Veterans Affairs, Seneca Castle, Oaks Corners, and Shortsville.
