The IRS is working hard to get through all of the 2021 tax returns they’ve received, and most people are seeing refunds within 3 weeks.
Returns started being accepted on Jan. 24, 2022, and this year there are no extensions.
There are still a lot of additional tax credits available to families this year.
This means if you want to claim them, you need to file a tax return with the IRS to see the money.
Many people have already submitted their returns, and are looking for their refunds now.
What tax refunds look like from the IRS in 2022
This is thanks to the expanded child tax credit and third stimulus checks some people never got.
The IRS suggested filing taxes as soon as possible to avoid delays, especially with a backlog from 2020.
How to check your refund
You can use the Where’s My Refund tool to track your refund.
If you filed electronically, you can start tracking it as soon as 24 hours later.
There are three phases: return received, refund approved, and refund sent.
It updates once per day.
The IRS is saying 9 out of every 10 refunds issued should arrive within three weeks of filing electronically.
