Single moms in Alabama could qualify to receive monthly payments of $375 for a year.
The city of Birmingham will being doing this through the Embrace Mothers program.

How does it work?
Embrace Mothers received a $500,000 grant. It will now be a part of a nationwide research project. It will evaluate the impacts of guaranteed income on individuals and families. Click here to read more.
Mayor Randall Woodfin’s office has stated that over 8,000 single moms completed an application, However, the application did close on February 8.
Through the grant received by Embrace Mothers, 110 single moms in Birmingham will receive monthly payments of $375 for a full year.
Applicants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups:
- Guaranteed income recipients: single moms who will receive the full benefit each month. They will also be eligible to complete surveys every six months and receive a $30 gift card for each completed survey.
- Control group participants: will not receive the guaranteed income but is still invited to complete the surveys for gift cards.
- Non-participants: won’t receive the benefit or change to complete surveys and will not be contacted.
Low and middle income Americans could receive $240 payments every three months
How do I know if I’ve been selected?
You will be reached by a third-party via phone number or email, as provided on the application if you have been selected. However, it is now too late to edit or change your contact information.
If you’ve been selected, you are encouraged to answer the calls and emails regularly. If you haven’t been contacted, you don’t need to call.
