With Covid-19 cases on the rise, vaccinated individuals have questions

As the Covid-19 cases continue to increase, people who are vaccinated have questions about becoming infected due to vaccines not being 100% effective.

A breakthrough case is when a fully vaccinated individual ends up contracting the virus.

Officials say these are rare cases and there’s not a reason to be overly concerned.

Ghinwa Dumyati, a Professor of Medicine at URMC and Infectious Disease Physician, said that those who do contract it usually have either no symptoms or mild symptoms.

Research data shows that vaccines are 94% effective against the Coronavirus.

Due to the rise of cases, there will likely be a rise in breakthrough cases as well.

Of all new cases reported in the state of New York, 72% account for the Delta variant and most infections are happening in areas with low vaccination rates.

Of the millions that have been vaccinated, only .15% have become infected.

As of Monday, 75% of all adults in the state are fully vaccinated and 3.5 million remain unvaccinated.
