The U.S. Coast Guard is asking residents and visitors to Lake Ontario, and even those in the Finger Lakes region to be careful on ice.
Over the last month there have been several accidents involving individuals who fell through the ice and had to be rescued.
Right now, ice is destabilizing and becoming less thick due to warming temperatures. Experts say that a day or two of temperatures below freezing cannot undo melting that occurs during unseasonably warm days.
The advice: Stay off the ice. And if you’re going to be around ice or water, take precautions.
