Waterloo Container Company, a key player in the packaging industry, has been awarded a Green Certificate by M.A. Silva, a major supplier of cork stoppers, for its significant environmental contributions. Over the past ten years, the company’s partnership with M.A. Silva has resulted in the retention of 7,854 tons of CO2 and the preservation of 7,451 cork oak trees. These achievements are based on assessments by Price Waterhouse and ECOBILAN.

Kate Matthews, a closure specialist at Waterloo noted that M.A. Silva’s commitment to quality and environmental stewardship mirrors their own corporate values. This alignment has enriched their operations and supported their environmental goals. Natural cork, used in their products, is harvested from oak trees in a way that doesn’t harm the trees, making it a sustainable choice for wine packaging.

Bill Lutz, President of Waterloo Container, reflected on the recognition as a testament to their larger environmental impact, emphasizing the company’s role in protecting approximately sixty acres of forest. He praised the enduring partnership with M.A. Silva for enabling both growth and sustainability in their business practices.
