Bill and Debbie Doran have opened the “Grind On Coffee Shop” on South Main Street in the Village of Newark after many months of remodeling and a delayed opening because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The owners says that patrons will be delighted in the quality of changes that have taken place, as well as the menu.
The building at 112-114 South Main Street in Newark was built around 1900 and was the home of Dr. E.P. Thatcher. After many years as the Walsh Shop, a high end women’s wear shop operated by Miss F.M. Walsh, the building at 112-114 South Main Street in Newark was a florist shop, jewelry & gift shop, and even a tattoo emporium. A portion was also operated as an optometrists office.
Recently Jim Weiler, President of the Newark-Arcadia Historical Society, and Chris Davis, museum executive director, visited the shop and presented the Dorans with a framed 1904 photo of the original Dr. Thatcher home and best wishes for business success.
