New coffee shop opens on South Main Street in Newark

Bill and Debbie Doran have opened theGrind On Coffee Shop” on South Main Street in the Village of Newark after many months of remodeling and a delayed opening because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The owners says that patrons will be delighted in the quality of changes that have taken place, as well as the menu.

The building at 112-114 South Main Street in Newark was built around 1900 and was the home of Dr. E.P. Thatcher.  After many years as the Walsh Shop, a high end women’s wear shop operated by Miss F.M. Walsh, the building at 112-114 South Main Street in Newark was a florist shop, jewelry & gift shop,  and even a tattoo emporium. A portion was also operated as an optometrists office.

Recently Jim Weiler, President of the Newark-Arcadia Historical Society, and Chris Davis, museum executive director, visited the shop and presented the Dorans with a framed 1904 photo of the original Dr. Thatcher home and best wishes for business success.
