Wegmans worker in Geneva tests positive for COVID-19, and it’s a Seneca County resident

Public health officials in Seneca County have confirmed that one of the positive Novel Coronavirus cases is a worker at a popular grocery store in Ontario County.

Vickie Swinehart confirmed to the Finger Lakes Times that a Seneca County resident who tested positive for COVID-19 works at the Wegmans store located in Geneva.

She noted that when a resident tests positive an in-depth interview is conducted to trace where the person might have been. It also looks closely at what symptoms the person has had.

However, it wasn’t announced to the public until local media made inquiries on the topic.

“If it is determined during the investigation that there is a risk to the general public, this would have been relayed through the press,” Swinehart said. “In this case, it was determined that there was no need to do this.”

She said Wegmans has been cooperating with the Health Department.
