Addison village board to decide on dissolution this week

A key decision is looming in the Steuben County village of Addison, where officials are set to vote on whether to move forward with a plan that could eliminate the village government entirely.

The Addison Village Board is scheduled to meet Wednesday, April 29 at Village Hall to determine whether the proposal will advance to a public vote later this year or be stopped altogether.

The idea to dissolve the village was sparked by a petition from residents. If ultimately approved, the move would shift all local governance and services from the village to the Town of Addison.

Mayor Ed Soporowski said the board has gathered the necessary information to make a decision, following weeks of discussion and public input.

To help guide the process, the village hired a consulting firm to analyze the potential impacts of dissolution, including costs, services, and long-term implications. That analysis was presented to residents during a public meeting in March, where officials aimed to answer questions and provide clarity about what dissolution would mean.

The study was funded through a state grant designed to support communities exploring municipal reorganization.

If the board votes to move the proposal forward, residents would have the final say in a referendum expected later this year.
