The people of the 27th Congressional District will go unrepresented in Congress for at least the next 6 months.
On Wednesday, Governor Andrew Cuomo signaled he’s likely to call for a special election in the district that coincides with the presidential primary in New York, which is set for the end of April.
According to the Governor, the decision comes down to money and voter turnout.
It would likely cost at least $1 million to hold a special election on its own, but if it’s rolled into a day where voters would be going to the polls anyway, it’s cheaper and may encourage a better turnout.
