Auburn rallying around siblings who need heart transplants

The Auburn community is rallying behind a mother who is doing all she can to make sure her two kids live a full life.

“I don’t think there’s a sacrifice out there a mom wouldn’t make for her kids,” said Carrie Brown. “They have faced more things in their life than any one person should.”

Hailey and Hayden Brown have spent the last 5 years in and out of hospitals in Syracuse, Baltimore, Rochester, and New York City. Both have been diagnosed with ventricular cardiomyopathy.

The condition weakens the heart and makes it difficult for blood to reach their fingertips.

“The amount of blood that it can hold and bring in and bring out is not even a quarter of what you and I make have,” said Brown.

“I see all my friends doing activities and sports which I can’t do,” said Hayden Brown, 15. “I can’t run as fast because my heart starts to beat faster and it can’t take as much pressure as regular kids my age.”
