A summer internship at Bank of America has turned into a post-graduation job offer for Emily Cain, a Hobart and William Smith Colleges student from Fairport.
Cain, a member of the HWS Class of 2027, worked this summer with the bank's Global Payments Solutions and Global Commercial Sales team in New York City. She has been offered a full-time position as a treasury sales analyst after graduation, according to the college's account of her internship.
In that role, Cain expects to manage client relationships, research industries, draft proposals and identify opportunities for the bank's treasury products and services. She said the internship let her apply skills developed as an economics major and a member of the HWS Finance Society.
Cain also captains the HWS Alpine Ski Team and serves as an athletic study mentor. She credited those experiences with strengthening the leadership, communication and time-management skills she used at the bank.
“I'd never lived in a city before or experienced that kind of lifestyle,” Cain said in the college's report. “Most of my friends went abroad to Europe, and I felt like I went abroad to Manhattan. It was completely out of my comfort zone and I loved it.”
Two HWS alumni helped Cain connect with the opportunity and supported her during the internship: Bank of America product manager Kiersten Hamilton, a 2012 graduate, and treasury sales officer Christina Mitrow, a 2022 graduate. Both were student-athletes and previously interned at the bank. Cain also credited HWS career services associate director Shayne Feinberg for guidance.
Cain said those connections helped her move from campus coursework into a large financial institution. The full-time offer is for after her expected 2027 graduation; the college did not provide a start date or other terms.
