A Bath man was arrested after police responded to a report of someone trespassing and attempting to damage property at the state Department of Environmental Conservation building on West Morris Street.
James D. Pettingell, 39, was charged with third-degree criminal trespass, a misdemeanor, following the Sept. 15 incident, according to the Bath Police Department.
Police said officers were dispatched around 4:30 p.m., but the suspect had left before they arrived.
Officers later found Pettingell in a tree line behind Tops, according to police. Authorities said he didn’t comply with officers and was detained while they investigated the incident.
Pettingell was subsequently taken into custody and processed on the criminal trespass charge.
He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Bath Village Court at a later date.
