New York State Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a woman wanted for questioning after more than $469 worth of merchandise was allegedly taken from a Walmart in Cortlandville.
Troopers said the incident happened around 5:14 p.m. Sept. 10, when a woman was observed concealing clothing, food and other merchandise inside the store.
Police said the woman left through the grocery area without paying for 41 items valued at more than $469.
Walmart Asset Protection employees attempted to stop her, according to State Police. The woman initially went back inside the store but left again, abandoning some of the merchandise after learning police were on their way.
Investigators said she was later seen getting onto and then off a Centro bus near the store. She then allegedly ran behind the Walmart and hid behind a nearby business before leaving the area.
State Police described the woman as having reddish-colored hair and said she was wearing a black shirt and green patterned leggings at the time of the incident.
Troopers have not been able to identify her.
