Cayuga Community College volleyball battled SUNY Broome at home Tuesday but was unable to extend the match beyond three sets, falling to the Hornets in straight sets.
The Spartans dropped the opening set 25-7 before putting together a much stronger showing in the second. Cayuga stayed within striking distance throughout the frame, but SUNY Broome ultimately pulled away to take the set 25-22. The Hornets then closed out the match with a 25-8 victory in the third set.
Yanellie Gamez directed the Spartans’ attack with 15 assists while also serving up a team-high five aces. Jillian Tandle led Cayuga with four kills, and Callahan Bacon added three kills.
Natalie Baldwin also contributed from the service line, recording two aces for the Spartans.
Cayuga will have a chance to regroup Saturday, September 12, when the Spartans travel to Onondaga Community College for a three-team pod. The schedule will include a rematch with SUNY Broome as well as a matchup against Corning Community College.
The Spartans are scheduled to open the pod against Corning at 12 p.m. before facing SUNY Broome later in the day.
