A bicyclist was seriously injured Monday night after being struck by a motor vehicle on Routes 5 and 20 near Veterans Memorial Parkway in the town of Aurelius.
The crash happened shortly after 8 p.m. State police said the bicyclist was taken to Auburn Community Hospital with serious injuries.
Firefighters with the Aurelius Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched at 8:04 p.m. and arrived about three minutes later. The department said the patient was transported by Auburn City Ambulance.
Emergency crews remained at the scene for several hours while state police investigated the crash and conducted accident reconstruction. The area was still closed to traffic shortly after 10 p.m.
Aurelius firefighters continued providing lighting and traffic control during the investigation. The department said all of its units were back in service at 12:02 a.m. Tuesday.
The Auburn police and fire departments, Auburn City Ambulance and Aurelius Volunteer Fire Department assisted New York State Police at the scene.
