White House announces Karoline Leavitt’s departure as press secretary

Karoline Leavitt completed her final day as White House press secretary Thursday, the administration announced.

Leavitt served as the 36th person in the role and was the youngest White House press secretary in U.S. history. The White House did not identify a successor in its announcement.

President Donald Trump praised Leavitt’s tenure and her defense of his administration’s agenda. The White House release highlighted several confrontational exchanges she had with reporters and political critics.

Leavitt’s departure ends her tenure in the James S. Brady Briefing Room; the administration’s next staffing step was not included in the release.
