Deputies said the investigation began after a domestic incident on Shay Road on Aug. 2.

Investigators allege both Bulriss and McCarthy acted in a manner harmful to the physical or mental welfare of a child younger than 17. Deputies also said each was connected to the possession of two illegally owned handguns.

Bulriss was arrested at about 3:30 a.m. Aug. 2 and taken to the Yates County Jail to await centralized arraignment.

McCarthy was arrested at about 10:55 p.m. Aug. 3. She was issued appearance tickets and ordered to return to Italy Town Court at a later date.

The Sheriff’s Office did not release additional details about the domestic incident or explain why the two defendants were processed differently.
