The Waterloo Library and Historical Society will hold its annual Cookie Fun Run and Bookish 5K on Saturday, Aug. 15, with races, themed prizes, cake and ice cream.
Both events start and finish at the library at 31 East Williams Street in Waterloo, with the Bookish 5K beginning at 8 in the morning and the one-mile family fun run following at 9:30.
This year's 5K carries an "Unearth a Story" theme tied to New York's summer reading program. The first 100 participants will receive a book-themed medal and T-shirt.
The fun run is inspired by the children's book "If You Give a Pig a Party." Participants will encounter a cake stop midway through the course and receive ice cream at the finish line.
All participants will receive a themed medal, and registered children younger than 5 will receive a copy of this year's featured book.
Registration costs $35 for the 5K and $15 for the one-mile run. Children younger than 5 may participate for free.
