An Auburn man was charged after deputies said he fled a traffic stop in Lyons and led police through three counties Tuesday afternoon before officers took him into custody in Seneca County.
Darren O. Vatter, 26, was charged with unlawful fleeing from a police officer, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said they saw Vatter commit a traffic violation around 2:39 p.m. on state Route 14 near Sohn Alloway Road. He allegedly fled when marked patrol vehicles attempted to stop him.
The Sheriff's Office said Vatter continued south on Route 14 into Ontario County before turning east on Route 318 into Seneca County. Officers took him into custody near the intersection of routes 318 and 89.
Deputies determined that Vatter was operating under the influence, but the release did not list a separate impaired-driving charge. He was issued multiple traffic tickets in addition to the three criminal charges.
Vatter was processed at the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and released on an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 25.
State police, the Seneca County Sheriff's Office, the state Department of Environmental Conservation and Seneca Falls police assisted Wayne County deputies. The charges are allegations, and Vatter is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
