About 50 people attended Ovid’s first public workshop to help shape a comprehensive plan for the village, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
Participants identified downtown revitalization, job creation and additional businesses as leading priorities, with a grocery store emerging as the most requested addition.
Residents generally supported economic development but said growth should remain gradual, preserve Ovid’s rural and historic character and primarily benefit local residents.
The workshop also highlighted concerns involving water and sewer capacity, deteriorating properties, affordable housing, traffic safety, pedestrian access and limited transportation options.
Consultant Jenny Loewenstein said a second public workshop is planned for September, though a date has not been scheduled.
