Clyde to celebrate new hydration station in village park

Clyde will mark the installation of a new hydration station in its village park with a grand opening and ribbon cutting July 14.

The ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. in the park, where the station has been installed through work by the village of Clyde and its Department of Public Works.

The station is intended for residents, visitors and pets, according to an announcement from Amy Reed Bullard, outreach coordinator for Active People Healthy Wayne through Cornell Cooperative Extension of Wayne County.

The ribbon cutting will take place the same day as Cycle the Erie, when cyclists are expected to begin arriving in the park to rest and eat.

The hydration station was described as a final gift from SOAR, a resident-driven grant that worked with people in Clyde, Galen and Savannah for 11 years before ending in 2024. Cornell Cooperative Extension administered the SOAR grant, which was funded by the Greater Rochester Health Foundation.

The grant focused on building on existing community amenities and strengths. Bullard said the hydration station idea came from a village resident who walks her dog and thought the station would help dog walkers and the many cyclists who stop in Clyde each year.

After the ceremony, visitors are invited to stop by the Clyde Welcome Center on Glasgow Street and take a photo with the recently installed Clyde sign. The sign is intentionally missing the letter Y so visitors can be the "Y in Clyde."

The sign was also purchased with remaining SOAR grant funds.
