Hornell’s Board of Public Safety unanimously appointed Jacob Giglio as a full-time provisional firefighter at its August meeting, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune.
Giglio holds emergency medical technician certification, previously volunteered with the South Hornell Fire Department and has served as a call firefighter since October 2025.
Mayor John Buckley said Giglio responded to 168 calls in less than a year.
A 2009 Hornell High School graduate, Giglio earned an accounting degree from Alfred University in 2015 and a master’s degree in business administration in 2016.
His appointment took effect immediately, and he is scheduled to attend an upcoming fire academy.
