Hornell officials say more riders are wearing helmets and obeying traffic signals under the city’s new electric vehicle law, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune.
Approved in April, the law sets speed limits, age restrictions, equipment requirements and operating rules for e-bikes, e-scooters and other electric vehicles.
Police initially emphasized education and warnings, with Chief Ted Murray reporting about 50 stops during the 30 days before his July update.
Officers seized two abandoned e-bikes after riders fled, and Murray said city cameras have helped identify most fleeing operators.
One rider received eight tickets for refusing to wear a helmet despite an offer from police to provide one.
