Route 14 lane reductions begin Monday in Chemung County

Drivers in Chemung County should expect delays on state Route 14 starting Monday as a pavement project reduces traffic to one lane between Horseheads and Elmira, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The lane reductions are scheduled to begin July 6 on Route 14 from West Broad Street in the village of Horseheads to Chapman Place in the town of Elmira.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane and controlled by flagging personnel while crews complete the pavement work, DOT officials said.

The project is expected to be completed by late November. Construction activities are weather dependent and could change based on conditions.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and use alternate routes if necessary. DOT officials also urged drivers to slow down in work zones, where fines are doubled for speeding.
