Roof collapses during Cayuga County house fire

Fire crews from several Cayuga County-area departments responded to a house fire on Route 34B near Levanna Road, where a roof collapse was reported during the incident, according to Cayuga/Seneca Fire Wire.

The incident drew responders from Poplar Ridge, Scipio, Long Hill, King Ferry, Moravia, Aurelius, Lansing, Genoa, Aurora, Auburn, Fourtown and Southern Cayuga Ambulance, according to the post.

Cayuga/Seneca Fire Wire reported that the first chief on scene found a working fire and that crews were operating with multiple hose lines. Command later called for a defensive attack only.

Lansing tanker crews were first placed on standby at the Poplar Ridge station before being sent to the scene, according to updates from the page.

Route 34B was reported closed in the area while crews worked. An excavator was also requested and later arrived to assist with overhaul.

Updates from the scene said Auburn units cleared after about an hour, while crews continued working and overhaul remained underway.
