Keuka College graduates in several science and math programs will have a more direct path into Syracuse University master's programs under a new agreement between the two schools.
Keuka College announced the direct-admission partnership Wednesday, saying it will streamline entry for qualified graduates into 12 master's programs in Syracuse University's College of Engineering and Computer Science.
The agreement applies to Keuka students who complete bachelor's degrees in biology, chemistry, environmental science, or applied mathematics and finance. Students must have a GPA of at least 3.2, meet other academic and character requirements, and participate in a bridge program.
Eligible students may pursue master's programs at Syracuse including chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, and operations research and systems analytics.
Dr. Carol Lugg, Keuka College's associate vice president for institutional effectiveness, said the agreement builds on the college's liberal arts foundation and career-focused Field Period program.
"This agreement broadens opportunities for students to enter competitive STEM fields," Lugg said.
Dr. Michael Keck, chair of Keuka College's Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, said the partnership makes Keuka a stronger option for students interested in engineering because they can start with a hands-on undergraduate experience and continue to advanced study at a regional research institution.
Dr. Shikha Nangia, chair of biomedical and chemical engineering at Syracuse University, said the partnership will expand access to high-demand careers while giving students academic support and research opportunities.
Keuka's Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics includes research, internships, fieldwork and the college's Field Period program. Syracuse University's College of Engineering and Computer Science offers more than 30 programs across engineering and computer science disciplines.
