Hyundai Recalls More Than 96000 SUVs Over Instrument Panel Display Problem

Hyundai is recalling more than 96,000 SUVs in the U.S. due to a software problem that may cause the digital instrument panel to go blank while driving. The vehicles involved are certain 2025 and 2026 Hyundai Tucson, Tucson Hybrid and Tucson Plug-in Hybrid vehicles. A communication error between the main digital systems can cause the instrument cluster to reboot without warning. And when this occurs vital driving information such as speed, fuel level and warning lights can momentarily disappear. There have been no reports of crashes, injuries or deaths, but the problem is considered a safety risk and does not meet federal vehicle safety standards. Hyundai said all affected vehicles will get a free software update to fix the problem.

Affected Vehicles and Safety Issues

Affected models: About 96,310 vehicles are being recalled: the 2025 and 2026 model-year Hyundai Tucson, Tucson Hybrid and Tucson Plug-in Hybrid SUVs.

The Issue: The digital dashboard can reboot during vehicle operation due to a failure in the software communication between the instrument cluster and the head-up display. It loses the information on its display for a moment.

The threat: A blank dashboard could deny drivers vital information such as speed, fuel level or system warnings. It increases the risk of accidents and is in violation of federal motor safety standards.

Status: Hyundai has not at this time reported any crashes, injuries or deaths related to this issue.

How to Fix the Issue

Over-The-Air (OTA) Update Troubleshooting: Hyundai will issue a free software update to correct the problem. Hyundai Bluelink vehicles that have opted into OTA services will be able to access the update without a trip to the dealership.

Dealer Update: OTA update for U.S. and Canada vehicles only. Vehicles that have not received the OTA update will need to be taken to an authorized Hyundai dealer. The software will be manually upgraded free of charge.

Next Steps & Warnings

Notification letters: Hyundai will begin mailing notification letters to affected owners on Aug. 22. You will receive letters explaining the recall and how to get the software update.
