Scott Eastwood and Colin Hanks Join New World War II Thriller Derivative

Scott Eastwood and Colin Hanks team up officially in a rugged new entry in the World War II cinematic landscape. Acclaimed filmmaker Rod Lurie directs this pulse-pounding historical action-thriller, Lucky Strike, alongside the powerhouse duo. Distributed by Roadside Attractions and Saban Films, this project departs from grand battlefield choreography to tell a deeply intimate, high-stakes story of psychological endurance and survival.

One Man’s Struggle Against the Nazi Invasion

Lucky Strike transports you to the frozen, brutal setting of the infamous Battle of the Bulge in harrowing true events on the European front. The story follows Captain John Castle (Scott Eastwood), an American soldier who is severely injured and abandoned behind enemy lines during the final major German offensive in World War II.

When a dangerous mission ordered by Colonel Neale (Colin Hanks) goes south, an elite SS unit ambushes Castle’s entire engineering division. Castle is left all alone in the dense, hostile Belgian countryside. He must rely on his instincts, his raw survival skills, and his sheer willpower to outsmart an advancing Nazi Panzer division.

His one connection to the outside world is a Motorola SCR-300 radio strapped to his backpack, state-of-the-art military gear that’s only battle-ready toward the very end of the war. The radio is his only chance to transmit vital intelligence back to the Allied lines, but it is a terrifying double-edged sword. The enemy who is looking for him might learn his exact location from the signal.

The Creative Crew & Stellar Cast

It’s a thrilling, creative pairing that reunites Scott Eastwood and director Rod Lurie, who previously teamed up on the 2019 modern military drama The Outpost, which received critical acclaim. Lurie, a filmmaker known for his authentic, character-driven military stories, co-wrote the screenplay with veteran producer Marc Frydman.

  • Eastwood carries the physical and emotional weight of the project in his on-screen survival story, but the supporting cast brings incredible dramatic depth.
  • Colin Hanks anchors the command side of the operation as Colonel Neale, with his usual grounded intensity.
  • Academy Award nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor plays an integral role as Mrs. Caldwell, a retired factory worker who connects to a compelling frame narrative that bookends Castle’s wartime journey.
  • Taylor John Smith joins the ensemble in a major supporting role as the story follows the chaotic, shifting battle lines of the Ardennes Counteroffensive.

Release Date & Production Note

Principal photography took place at Nu Boyana Film Studios in Sofia, Bulgaria, on highly detailed, historic wartime sets, and was financed by BondIt Media Capital to portray the bone-chilling winter of 1944. It’s a taut, propulsive 102 minutes, designed to keep you on the edge of your seat from the opening ambush to the final transmission.

War movie fans won’t have to wait long for a taste of the tension. Lucky Strike will open wide in theaters across the United States on Friday, June 26, 2026.
