A Wayne County garage door company says scammers create up to 30 fake websites using its name every month, according to News10NBC.
Marion Garage Door owner Bryan Lousley said customers often mistake the fraudulent sites for his business after finding them in Google search results. The sites use local phone numbers, mimic legitimate companies, and often send repair crews in unmarked vehicles while charging inflated prices.
The problem has persisted for six years and has grown worse with artificial intelligence, which makes it easier to copy legitimate websites. Lousley said Google removes the fake sites within days because his company holds a trademark. Experts recommend avoiding sponsored search results and checking a website’s age through domain lookup tools before hiring a contractor.
