Auburn’s plan to cut 13 school crossing guards could change after a late state funding boost, according to The Citizen.
City leaders are weighing whether to use part of an extra $2 million in state aid to keep guards at busy school intersections. Keeping six guards would cost more than $70,000, while keeping all 13 would cost more than $170,000.
The Auburn City Council has not made a final decision. Members are expected to settle the issue before voting on the 2026-27 budget June 11.
