Castle Street paving and reconstruction project to disrupt traffic in Geneva

Drivers, residents and businesses in parts of Geneva should expect significant traffic disruptions beginning Tuesday as the city moves into the next phase of the Castle Street Capital Improvements Project.

City officials said paving work will begin on Castle Street between Main Street and Pulteney Street starting at 6 a.m. Tuesday, with access to driveways and street parking temporarily unavailable during construction hours. Residents are being urged to move vehicles to alternate parking locations before work begins.

The city also announced that the section of Castle Street between Oak Street and Pulteney Street will undergo full reconstruction beginning Tuesday, bringing additional daytime restrictions on parking and driveway access.

Several road closures and detours are expected throughout the project. Eastbound and westbound traffic on Castle Street will be closed between Main Street and Oak Street during the workday, while northbound and southbound traffic on Pulteney Street will be shut down between Elmwood Avenue and Castle Street.

City officials said Dorchester Avenue will remain open for local traffic only, though temporary delays and closures are possible as construction continues.

The project is expected to last several weeks, though officials noted schedules could change depending on weather or other conditions. Work zones will be restricted to local traffic and emergency vehicles, with detours posted throughout the area.

The city is also urging cyclists to use caution because of rough road conditions and reminding pedestrians to stay clear of construction equipment and use sidewalks and crosswalks where available.

Residents with questions about the project can contact the city’s Department of Public Works engineering department.
