Auburn man charged with DWI after Weedsport traffic stop

An Auburn man was charged with driving while intoxicated after deputies assisted Weedsport police with a traffic stop last week.

Tony N. Bui, 53, was arrested at 10:30 p.m. June 25 and charged with first-offense DWI, a misdemeanor, and other vehicle and traffic violations, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said they responded to the area of state Route 34 and Bentley School Road to assist Weedsport police with the stop. A deputy determined Bui had been operating a vehicle while under the influence, according to the sheriff's office.

Bui was taken to the Public Safety Building, where deputies said he refused to provide a breath sample. He was then turned over for centralized arraignment court.

The sheriff's office said Bui's driver's license was suspended and he was released on his own recognizance. He appeared in Weedsport Village Court on June 29.

The sheriff's office said anyone with information can call 315-253-1222 or submit a tip through Cayuga County's tip line or SaferWatch app. Bui is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
